Summer 2010 Issue Highlights
Imaging Notes is presenting this Summer issue with new articles each few days in early July, so follow us on Twitter or join our groups on LinkedIn and Facebook to learn when new articles are posted.
Community Remote Sensing (CRS), also called citizen science or mapping and the more mainstream term of crowdsourcing, is becoming recognized as a key element in filling the data gap for remote sensing. The data provided from people and sensors "on the ground" will be instrumental in seeing a much fuller picture for projects around the world, from vehicles collecting road and weather data to ImageCat's Virtual Disaster Viewer, which provides data from many sources all in one place for emergency responders. This article features projects about coral reef monitoring on the Great Barrier Reef and the Myanmar cyclone response by GISCorps.
IGARSS' 30th Anniversary meeting in July in Honolulu will include a plenary session and panel discussion on CRS, with two leaders of The White House's Office of Science and Technology presenting: Aneesh Chopra, CTO, and Shere Abbott, Associate Director for Environment. Imaging Notes will be reporting on the conference.
Fugro EarthData mapped the whole island of St. Lucia, including the underwater coastlines. Read about how they are balancing growth on the island with preservation of resources.
The ESRI User Conference is always a massive event for many of us, and for the first time, we are publishing a Business Partner Special Section for the issue that will be distributed there.
Lawrie Jordan, Director of Imagery for ESRI is featured in this issue. He is known as one of the founders of ERDAS, and he is a true visionary and leader for the industry. We welcome him back out of retirement!
Joel Campbell is now President of ERDAS. He is certainly an up-and-coming leader for the industry, and he is featured here as well.
Most geospatial companies are seeking more business clients, and are watching closely to find that critical niche that they can fill for businesses. With our partner publication, LBx Journal, we present this in-depth look by Victor Harrison at how location intelligence is a critical component of business intelligence. He interviews SpatialKey, aWhere, KOREM, and Spatialytics about their companies' offerings for location intelligence.
